Food for Life Halton & Hamilton is the regional leader in rescuing and distributing GOOD fresh and frozen food. We support the community by supplying healthy food directly to neighbours and to a network of non-profits and partners who offer food support programs. Reporting to the Director of Operations, as Assistant, Operations and Team Experiences you will have the opportunity to use your skills and talents to:
Support our Team Experiences and Pack Room Operations:
- Assist in the supervision of corporate and community team volunteers with our food packing activities.
- Help move food in and out of the pack room as needed.
- Support our Fulfillment Coordinator with daily tasks regarding record keeping.
Optimize the movement of food within the warehouse:
- Use electric lift equipment to help rotate and organize food product based on quality/BB dates.
- Help organize cases and pallets of food in cold climates (our onsite fridges and freezer).
- Conduct general shipping & receiving tasks, which include manual hand bombing of cases of food into vehicles.
- Supervision of volunteers may occur during this role as required (i.e., food sorting activities).
Conduct daily warehouse cleaning and support tasks:
- Perform general cleaning duties when needed, including sweeping and washing floors, and waste management.
Hours and Location of Work
This is an onsite role on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with working hours of 9:00am to 4:00 pm. This is a 16-week contract position with potential for extension. The working location is typically our primary office location at 2258 Mountainside Drive in Burlington.
Compensation
You will be compensated with an hourly rate of $22/hour inclusive of your 4% vacation pay.
About You
You bring a background in warehousing, ideally with food sector experience and knowledge. Specifically, food distribution experience of more than two years is desired.
You have strong communication and customer service skills and are keenly aware of the vital role that great service plays in the overall impact of an organization and you strive to deliver a second-to-none experience. Supervisory experience is an asset.
Lift truck experience and/or valid certification (manual pump and/or electric walkie) is required. Forklift experience and/or valid certification is an asset.
Access to a vehicle or dependable transportation is a requirement of this role along with the ability to lift up-to 50 lbs.
