Food for Life volunteers drive, collect, pack, coordinate, weigh, lift, carry, load, deliver, fundraise, network, direct and help with special events and outreach.

Individual

Program Volunteers

Volunteers can commit to supporting a program once a week, or once a month. We would build a schedule to work with your schedule. As a program volunteer you are responsible for the following; Engage with neighbours, while handing out food. Sorting food is required

Fresh food Packer

This packing role is mission-critical, so we do want to ensure we have the volunteer power to make it happen each week. We will continue to follow COVID screening guidelines with anyone who comes into our warehouse to ensure the safety of everyone packing and working here. We also follow social distancing guidelines. The minimum age for our volunteers is 14, or 12 if accompanied by an adult. Each shift we are looking for 5-7 volunteers.

Kitchen Volunteer

Food for Life Kitchen operating out of the Connect Centre is a social enterprise initiative preparing meals from rescued food which will be distributed to our neighbours through various FFL programs as well as agency partners. The kitchen provides an opportunity for you to learn some basic kitchen and food preparation skills. You will spend approximately four hours in the kitchen preparing and cooking meals and then packaging them.

Volunteer Driver Assistants

We are currently looking for on-call drivers and volunteer driver assistants. On-Call drivers must have a clean drivers abstract and friendly customer service skills. As a driver or assistant you are responsible for the following;​ Assist with loading and unloading food from vehicle, assist with packing or re-packing food in containers or bags, weighing containers of food, the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs, good mobility so you are able to climb in and out of the truck. Hours will vary depending on the day of the week.
